Emotional Grounding Technique

Lemons 🍋(anything sour in general) can definitely help us come back to the present moment…😬 Sometimes we get stuck in a younger version of ourselves (when triggered by something) because of the trauma we have been through

Feel free to try this exercise next time you feel stuck in the past

Lemon Grounding Exercise **Anything sour works for this exercise. Some of my clients like using lemon/lime salt, sour patch kids, or warheads**:

Step 1– Get some water and put some 🍋 in it.

Step 2– Take a bite of the lemon each time you feel like you are checked out from reality.

Step 3– As you take a bite, close your eyes and take 3 big deep breaths. Notice the smell of the lemon, how it tastes, and the texture. After this, open your eyes and tell yourself the first thing that you see.

Some questions you might ask yourself during this:

1. How old do I feel right now?
(if you are feeling anxious/fearful/etc. and you can’t find something concretely wrong, you are most likely stuck in a younger version of you)

2. What am I not getting right now?
(HALT: Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired) Are you any of these things?

3. What do I need to have to come back to my adult self?
(your younger self can only achieve balance and comfort to the point that he/she got it as a child. Your younger self can’t comfort your adult self, but your adult self can for sure comfort your younger self)
